Pilates is a full body workout that combines strengthening with gentle stretching. It can improve posture and ability to move better in daily life, not just in class. We may feel and move like a younger person. Pilates famously said: "If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old; if it is completely flexible at 60, you are young." 

Pilates is often recommended by physiotherapists, GPs and many health care professionals. Whilst the original exercises can support a high level of fitness, the Pilates Method has been modified and adapted over the years  for rehabilitation.

Standing Pilates


A popular class that builds functional fitness and core strength and stability.

Functional  fitness is fitness that helps us in everyday life: balance better, have the strength to sit down, reach for things on a shelf or pick up something from the floor.

I guide you safely through the exercises and offer loads of modifications for anyone who wants less or more.

Popular with fit people or for rehabilitations, say following a hip replacement and anyone who wants to maintain bone strength and pelvic floor health. I add a few exercises from Barre in this class.

Online live classes are on Monday mornings 9-9.45 and Friday mornings 9-9.45, recordings are available to full members.

chair Pilates


Chair Pilates is a functional fitness class for anyone who finds it hard to stand but wants to build strength and mobility in the whole body. The exercises are designed to improve all actions of daily life. It's actually my favourite way of toning my core!

Don't underestimate the chair: Chair Pilates offers a great workout and can be adapted to suit rehabilitation or high levels of fitness! Classes will be adapted to your needs.

Chair Pilates can be adapted to lower or higher levels of fitness and I will guide you safely through the exercises and offer loads of modifications for anyone who wants less or more.

I've been teaching Pilates for nearly two decades. I originally started teaching Pilates Matwork classes. After being treated for cancer I developed issues with my bone density. This led me to train as a gym instructor, as a specialist Pilates instructor for Bones, in Bones for Life (a Feldenkrais-based method) and in Garuda Chair Pilates. I loved the standing and chair based work so much that I decided to offer these general functional fitness Pilates classes. 

Functional standing  and chair Pilates classes have the same focus on precision and core as a matwork Pilates class but these classes will leave you feel energised (and sometimes even a little sweaty).

They can also help to loose weight and may be part of the Body Confidence and Healthy Weight coaching sessions.
