Pilates Matwork classes are designed to improve flexibility, mobility and core strength.

 Pilates Matwork classes are mainly carried out on the mat (lying down, sitting, kneeling). This contact with the ground can help to notice imbalances and unnecessary tension. It can also relax the nervous system - especially if you lead a very active life - and yet, at the same time, recharge your energy levels.  

I teach modified Pilates movements and also add somatic movements from Feldenkrais. The specific focus and level varies and depends on those who attend the live class - their health issues and fitness level.

A popular class designed to build functional fitness with gentle squats and lunges, exercises to build arm, leg and core strength, improve mobility and balance and give a gentle cardiovascular workout (walking pace).

Functional fitness is the type of fitness that helps us balance better, have the strength to sit down and get up again, reach for things on a shelf or pick up something from the floor.  

This class is suitable for most people as it is low impact. I also guide you through the exercises and offer loads of modifications for anyone who wants to do less (or more...).  This class is popular with fit people as well as with those who are working to maintain a healthy pelvic floor and bones as well as those who are recovering from some types of injuries or surgery, say following a hip replacement.  

If you have a particular health condition, please check with your medical doctor or physiotherapist before enrolling in this class and follow their advice on what types of exercises are safe and which types of movement are not.  In the live classes on Mondays I generally focus a bit more on gentle cardiovascular challenges whilst on Fridays I generally focus a bit more on strength 

Pilates Stability Ball is a Pilates Matwork class with a large physio (pezzi) ball.

 The ball class is a flowing, playful class. It is popular with anyone who is looking for a relaxing as well as a gently energising class. A great class for gently building strength and mobility. You will find many of the matwork exercises in this class but done with the ball: The ball offers both extra support as well as extra challenges.  

Attendees report that the ball supports their core and can help them to release tension more effectively. Using the ball to support the core can help us to build stability and strength more effectively. The ball also offers extra challenges to those who are looking for that as it is a "wobbly" surface.

Pilates on the Foam Roller is one of those magic classes that seems to "reset" the back muscles or, as one client said, "like getting a back transplant".

 Saying that, Pilates on the Foam Roller is a more challenging Pilates Matwork class. You will find many of the Pilates matwork exercises in this class but carried out with a long foam roller.  I draw on elements from trigger point Pilates - a method to release tension in the fascia as well as other Foam Roller methods.  

Despite its benefits, it is not suitable for everyone. I find that many people with excessive curvature of the upper spine often find this class too challenging (you could use a rolled up towel instead!). It is also not suitable for anyone with severe bone density issues as there is less support and stability.

Don't be fooled by the chair: Chair Pilates offers a great workout and can be adapted to suit both those looking for a workout that suits a low level of fitness or rehabilitation as well as those with a high level of fitness! It is my favourite way to build my core and work on that flat stomach....

 This class is an intermediate class: it is a gentle fitness class for anyone who finds it hard to stand but still wants to build strength and mobility. The exercises can be modified to suit your individual level of fitness. Saying that, there are challenges in this class so if you have a very low level of fitness you may need to leave out some of the exercises. Maybe contact me first to discuss your individual needs.

Yoga Warrior Flow is a flowing Yoga class designed to improve mobility, flexibility, core strength and stability.

The class draws on traditional Yoga poses as well as flowing Chi Gong.  

Yoga and Chi Gong combine perfectly to support our mobility and flexibility, alignment, posture, balance, as well as strength and stability.  The class combines mindful attention to the body and breath with movement. Usually this is a slow-flowing class but there may be a few more dynamic elements offered at certain times of the year to build power.  

Check with me if you have any physical health issues as this class requires a certain amount of fitness and health and is not suitable for everyone.

Yoga Core is a mindful, slow-flowing Yoga class designed to improve core strength and stability.

The class draws on Yoga poses as well as Pilates exercises.  Yoga and Pilates combine perfectly to support our core, alignment, posture and balance, and build that strength and stability that we need for more challenging exercises and tasks. At the same time, Pilates and Yoga improve our mobility and release tension and restrictions.  

The class combines mindful attention to the body and breath with exercises to improve mobility, strength and balance.

Check with me if you have any physical health issues as this class requires a certain amount of fitness and health and is not suitable for everyone.
